Rex Stout (1886-1975) became an instant sensation when his first Nero Wolfe story, Fer de Lance, was serialized in The Saturday Evening Post and came out in book form in 1934. Before turning his hand to mystery writing, Stout invented a school banking system, which he helped install in 400 U.S. cities. Politically active during the war years, he wrote speeches and was chairman of the Writers War Board. During his illustrious and unparalleled career, Stout also served as the president of the Authors Guild, the Authors League of America, and the Mystery Writers of America.

Nero Wolfe 
I read this right after getting it a couple of years ago and it was so unforgettable that I didn’t remember reading it till a few pages into it just now… 😦
Not saying it is that bad. Far from it, it’s just not the Stout that we know from the Nero Wolfe series.
This is more of a teenage boys or young mans adventure book. The language is a bit stilted and forced in places. The descriptions of people and places are there, just not as refined.
Overall not a bad read. Just don’t expect it to be anything like the Wolfe series.
